Core Expansion: More On Clark Kent

Since writing the last article, I've had some time to reflect, and I think I could say a lot more about Clark than I previously thought. Rather than editing the previous one, I decided to just write another one. After all, it's not like I'm being graded on this.

Up, Up and...Nevermind

After seeing nearly every alien on the show fly, I can understand why fans would agree with Chloe. "Clark, you've got to get on that one!" His cousin Kara can fly, so why shouldn't he be able to? I'm sure most would automatically gravitate to the ever popular "the writers are stupid" reasoning. Not that it's not plausible. They've definitely screwed up more than a thing or two. I, however, have my own theory.

If you've paid attention to the Kryptonians on the show, the concept of destiny seems to be a big part of their culture. Every one of them believes they have a destiny. Clark, however, wasn't raised on Krypton; he was raised on Earth in the United States. Jonathan and Martha always taught him he had control over his future, and was, therefore, not 'destined' to do or be anything. These are, seemingly, conflicting views. Personally I'd love to go deeper on this, since my own religion of Christianity is full of this conflict, but that's not the article I'm writing, now is it?

It's my theory that this has something to do with the reason Clark can't fly. We all know he hasn't accepted his destiny, not by a long shot. Let us not forget the little training he's had, after which he called himself Kal-El. I haven't personally seen the episodes, but it's my understanding that as Kal-El he could fly. I think that's enough to support my theory. If I'm right, it's doubtful Clark will ever fly on the show. It will most likely end with him beginning some kind of training with Jor-El.

Meteor Rock Is A Kryptonian's Worst Enemy

Everyone knows what the green stuff does: weakens Clark, strengthens Bizzaro and mutates human beings, usually at the cost of their sanity. Not much to cover there. Just goes to show that anything green and glowing probably isn't good for you.

I'm personally very happy at the change they made with Red K. The random effect from the comics might have been interesting, but a window into Clark's real thoughts is nice once in a while. Not without consequence, but still. The thing I'm wondering is, what would Red K do to Bizzaro? Turn him into Wesley Crusher?

On the other hand, I'm very annoyed at the change in Blue K. It's supposed to strengthen Clark, not suppress his powers. I don't see why they couldn't have used a different color for this. I don't see how it could logically be used to defeat Bizzaro, but then, maybe it doesn't matter. He's not called Bizzaro for no reason.

"I'm you, only a little more bizarre."

Speaking of Bizzaro, he's interesting. He's another look into Clark's dark side, which I like, while also bringing a heavy sense of doom, heavier even than the current Lex. Why he wants to take over Clark's life is beyond me, but so far he's done a pretty good job of it. He even fooled me, though I'm sure I would have figured it out if he would have had more screen time. I knew something strange was going on.

Hopefully this will be the last time I write exclusively about Clark. He might be the core, but there are more layers to be explored.
