Smallville: Version LJ Strike
It's weird that I won't also be posting this on my LJ, but I'm sure I'll link when the strike is over.
This episode was more about destroying Lionel Luthor and "Gurl Power" than about Clark Kent. I'm not sure how much screen time he actually gets, but most of it was of him in a Krypto-cage, complete with Macho Man 33.1 calling him "it". While it was a better episode than most this season, I think AlMiles and the writers did this episode in an effort to say, "See? We don't hate women!" Not that I think they do mind you, it's just that they don't do strong female characters very well.
As far as Lionel goes...if they were trying to convince me he's still evil, they didn't do a very good job. Clark not trusting him anymore I understand, but I'm with Kara: it doesn't make sense. None of it makes sense, in fact. I kept asking myself, "Why is he doing this?" because I know he's not like Lex. Rough around the edges, yes, but not like Lex. And the drinking...I know the Luthors enjoy a drink, but he looked more like he was trying to drown something. At the end when Patricia gets shot, my heart sank because I thought Lionel had arranged it. Part of me was relieved when it turned out to be Lex.
I'll be watching to see if they redeem Lionel in the next episodes and perhaps the following season. I don't expect anything from them because they disappoint a lot, but I do have a little hope left.
